Who is that smiling face waving at you from the guard gate of Tryon? It is none other than Otis Miller, Security and Lead Supervisor of Parking. Otis is known for his infectious smile and charming personality, while also ensuring the safety of all visitors and competitors, anywhere and at anytime. Otis, a native of Mill Spring, NC, grew up on a farm right down the road from the equestrian center. He has worked with security for three years now, and his favorite part of the job?

“I love all of the people I get to meet. I was born a people person, which I think is a blessing for my job. The best story I have was when a couple locked themselves out of their car which was parked by the flag poles up top. After I got them in their car, all they wanted to do was take a selfie with me to share their experience at TIEC. It was hilarious. I also have people offer to take me out to lunch, or bring me milkshakes which just reassures me that I am doing what I am supposed to be doing.”

John Brodie, who works part time with security, adds, “I think the best thing about Otis is he is very caring and concerned about people. He’s got a smile that will make anybody come through these gates smile.”
